WS 8: Cleaning the winding parts of a Rolex Caliber 3035
Rob did not bring his spring winding tool, so we decided not to remove the spring but put the barrel with spring and separated cover into the cleansing machine. Then after two rounds of ultra-sonic cleaning we would decide whether the cleaning was sufficient or not.
I can tell you this up-front, the cleaning turned out to be sufficient and thus the mainspring did not need to be removed. I will soon finish another article showing the replacement of a Rolex mainspring. It is not a very difficult job, but if the mainspring jumps out of the barrel, you better take cover. The energy stored in the spring is considerable. Not to talk about the nasty effects on the curvature of the spring. A spring that flies out of the barrel could hit something and then experience a curvature change that would make it pretty unusable. But this will be the content of WS 9, replacing a mainspring.
