WS 25 Battery change on MechaQuartz IWC Caliber 631 R397 (SR726SW)
Now here is where a movement pad comes in very handy. You see the order
number 5394 just next to the bracelet. I am not endorsing Bergeon as a brand,
but once you have started using one of their movement pads, you will not want to
go back trying to get a firm hold (especially true for domed crystals and this
DaVinci has a slightly domed Sapphire crystal) on the without it. The movement
pad is cushioned, you can clearly see that I am pressing down on the watch (near
the front left side of the bracelet above "Bergeon"). Movement pads are also
great to turn around automatic watch movements in the case after having them
serviced or changed hands with the crown stem removed. As I said earlier, you
can do it without, it is just a lot more convenient with a movement pad.
The 1.0 mm screwdriver with a fine sharp blade (other calibers might require
other screwdriver sizes, I recommend you buy at least the sizes 0.5 or 0.6 mm,
1.0 mm and 1.2 mm for starter watch works. The
PMWC Starter Kit offers these sizes together with most tools
beginners will need for a good start into watch tinkering! A good start is
essential because scratched watch backs and other mishaps will most likely kill
your initial motivation to give basic watch making a try. The starter tool kit
is not a big investment and if you turn away from watches, you could still use
most of its tools to fix electronics, children toys or other precision
instruments in your household or office.
Watchmaker screwdrivers as most precision screwdrivers have a rotating widened
top so you can conveniently place your index on top of it and hold the
screwdriver with thumb and middlefinger for optimal control. Now we are almost
done, but first we need to check the O-ring (in this case in the case back, many
watches have O-ring grooves around the case) and we also need to clean both the
edge of the watch case and the edge of the case back to make sure the case back
snaps back perfectly not leaving any gaps for humidity or dirt or dust to enter.
