Universal for Sale

Universal is one of the great Swiss watch companies, at least if you look at their past. The history includes several horological milestones, best known probably the UNIVERSAL Tricompax inhouse chronograph from the 50ies that gave its name to all chronographs featuring the sub dials at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, while the other popular configuration is 6, 9 and 12 o'clock wiht the date or day-date at 3 o'clock. Universal also developed their own micro-rotor movement which features a small heavy rotor recessed into the movement (thus allowing flatter movement builds) while a regular rotor covers the movement and adds to the height. In the 90ies and following years one did not hear too much from Universal. At around 2001 there were rumours that the company was going to close, the website was "under construction" for month and nobody really knew what was going on.
Today UNIVERSAL is still going strong, releasing beautiful mechanical and quartz watches. The watches below are discontinued NOS* watches at exceptionally prices.
