About Sandoz Singapore (Pan Asia) Co. Ltd.
Sandoz Singapore watches seem to be a separate entity and a Singapore based company which is not related at all with Sandoz Watch Co. Ltd. (Far East) or Sandoz Hong Kong. I base this assumption on the fact, that the watch cases are different, the bracelets are different, the signature on the safety-loop of the diver's clasp is different, the logo is different. Also Singapore DayDate-likes look entirely different then their "relatives" from Sandoz Hong Kong. Also the packaging is different. Sandoz Singapore uses green boxes (a picture is below) for all their watches. The same green by the way that Sandoz of Switzerland is using. I have also never seen a Sandoz Singapore watch model for sale in Hong Kong and vice versa. The two companies only connection seems to be the name Sandoz.

As to the often asked question about whether or not Sandoz Singapore watches are in fact Swiss Made as the dial inscription "Swiss Made" or "Swiss" implies, I can only state what I have summarized in the box below.

*** Swiss Made: We can not assure that the FHS Swiss Made Definition is 100% fulfilled. But we can clearly see that the dials and cases of the Singapore watches are of a higher grade. Also they use sapphire crystals for all of their models' front crystal and offer screw-down crowns for all their models. Also Sandoz Singapore does not reveal the location of manufacturing.
A couple of years ago, Swiss customs had withheld Sandoz Singapore models just for that reason and released the watches after 3 weeks. Thus we concluded if Swiss customs let the watches pass as Swiss Made then they probably do fulfull the FHS Definitions.

 

The Sandoz brand name is owned by different businesses in different locations
While I was trying to find more information about the Sandoz brand, I found a reference to a Korean collaboration. Obviously some QUARTZ models were produced with a Korean partner called RABAN. But those were only Quartz watches and completely different models. I also find a website and a brochure from a Sandoz company with yet another logo obviously located in Spain. Have a look at www.munreco.com and check it out yourself. It seems that the rights to the brand name Sandoz have been sold to different partners in different locations. Sandoz Swiss, Sandoz Hong Kong (Far East), Sandoz Singapore and Sandoz Spain (Munreco) are all producing a different product line and seem to be independent holders of the Sandoz name and businesses. There are also different logos for Sandoz being used.

 

About the major differences between watches from Sandoz Singapore and Sandoz Hong Kong
 Sapphire crystals, larger crowns and more luxurious boxes are the main differences to the SANDOZ watches assembled in Hong Kong. The Singapore models use the very similar gold-colored ETA 2824-2 while their Hong Kong counterparts use mostly the 2836-2. Of course both the 2824-2 and the 2836-2 are very similar movements, they are both based on the 2824-1 architecture.

HOW TO resize Sandoz split pin bracelets!

 

 ALL  SINGAPORE Sandoz feature the following:

  • Sapphire Front Crystals! Mineral display backs (where applicable)

  • Screw-down Twinlock-style Crowns with two crown gaskets Note: the water resistance of 30 or 50 meters on 36 mm models is most likely too conservative and the watches have most likely a better water resistannce. A friend of mine in Australia had a 100 m rated Submariner-like tested and it passed 200 m pressure testing without problems! However Sandoz Singapore prefers these low ratings, probably for warranty reasons.

  • Applied Indices and Logos!

  • Big crowns for easy setting and winding

  • The black models have glossy most likely lacquered dials like found on much more expensive watches

  • Bracelets of Gents models are 8 inch or 20 cm, no extra links are availalbe, sorry!

  • 18 Karat electro-goldplating is used on all 2 tone Models. The thickness is 5 micron (5 Millionth of a Meter) and will give you ca. 10 years of daily use before it shows signs of wear

We have been selling Sandoz Singapore Diver's for a couple of years now and we have received several requests to supply bezel inserts. Also the most careful watch wearer will eventually scratch a bezel insert. We were never able to receive single bezel inserts as spare parts  (Sandoz spare part policy), but we have decided to measure the bezel dimensions and thus make your eventual search for a bezel insert easier! Outer diameter is 37.50 mm, inner diameter is 31.50 mm. Of course we will continue our search and look for a quality aftermarket bezel insert. So please watch this space for news.

Service Centers: Sandoz watches come with an international warranty, there is no dedicated service center for Sandoz watches in the USA. But since PMWC takes customer service really seriously, you can send the watch back to us in case of a problem. We will then take care and represent your interests with Sandoz Singapore. This has worked out extremely well in the past.

 They contain a quality ETA automatic movement, it is very easy to set the time and date. Please see the instructions below, thank you.

SANDOZ - ETA 2824-2 and 2836-2 User Manual

Instructions
0) Winding the watch: if it is a non-screw down watch, just turn the crown in clock-wise direction, about 30 to 40 times and it is fully wound. This movement features an over wind protection, thus it cannot be over wound. If the watch has a screw-down crown, unscrew the crown first, then follow the instructions here. Please make sure you screw down the crown after finishing the settings otherwise the water protection is not given!

1) Set Date: pull the crown out to the first position. You need a bit of feeling to do that. Sometimes it is easier to pull out the crown completely and then one click back. Turn the crown clock-wise and watch the date advance. DO NOT SET THE DATE IF THE TIME IS BETWEEN 11 PM AND 3 AM because during that time, the calendar mechanism of the watch also engages in date setting. See the safe method below.

2) Set Time: pull crown out to second position and adjust hour and minute. This is a hacking movement, so if you pull the crown out while the second hand is at 00 you can synchronize the watch to a time signal. Push crown back completely after setting and screw-down the crown if your watch has a screw-down crown.

Safe Method (Recommended)
1)Wind the watch.
2)Set the time to 6 o'clock
3)Set the date to the previous day
4)Advance the time to the correct time observing the correct setting of the time being AM or PM

 

SANDOZ Singapore ETA Movements:
Thanks to Mike I. who has just mailed me and re-opened his watch: the Singapore Submariner-likes use the ETA Movement 2824-2. All ETA Movements 2824-2 and 2834-2 and 2836-3 are very similar and all based on the robust and reliable workhorse Caliber 2824. I try to complete the information on what is actually inside each watch as I get that information. Based on Mike's information I am pretty sure, the above information is correct.
The 2836-2 is an Automatic movement with 25 Jewels, Incabloc shock protection, it is handwing and hacking, that means if you pull the crown out to position 2 (time setting mode), then the second hand will stop. This feature is required for Military watches in order to synchronize the time of a team.
