About Sandoz Hong Kong or Sandoz Watch Co. Ltd. (Far East)
This is probably the largest collection of Sandoz Hong Kong watches you will find on the web right now. I have long been overlooking the Sandoz watches until I one day noticed that they had a very good looking Sandoz Explorer-like watch. I realized that those watches really represent a true bargain, front and back sapphire, screw-down crown, excellent case and solid link bracelets and all watches use gold-plated or more likely a gold-colored ETA movements. I started adding more and more Sandoz watches, since watch friends kept asking me to do so.
Sandoz Hong Kong watches are obviously not Swiss Made, but they use Swiss ETA Movements throughout and are assembled in the Hong Kong area. While the warranty booklet shows "SANDOZ SUISSE" (French for Swiss), the watch dials from the Sandoz Hong Kong watches never say "Swiss Made" or "Swiss". Those two wordings are protected. Read the definition of the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH here please. If I say never, then there is of course the exception that states the rule. The exception is, that the automatic Sandoz Explorer-type says "Swiss" at the 6 o'clock marker. But this is the only Hong Kong model and my best guess is, that this dial was laid out a long time ago, maybe before the Swiss Watch Industry started enforcing the definition of "Swiss Made" and "Swiss" more strictly. All other Sandoz models show either "SWISS ETA Quartz" or "SWISS CALIBRE" or "SWISS ETA CALIBRE" or something along these lines.

The Sandoz brand name is owned by different businesses in different locations
While I was trying to find more information about the Sandoz brand, I found a reference to a Korean collaboration. Obviously some QUARTZ models were produced with a Korean partner called RABAN. But those were only Quartz watches and completely different models. I also find a website and a brochure from a Sandoz company with yet another logo obviously located in Spain. Have a look at www.munreco.com and check it out yourself. It seems that the rights to the brand name Sandoz have been sold to different partners in different locations. Sandoz Swiss, Sandoz Hong Kong (Far East), Sandoz Singapore and Sandoz Spain (Munreco) are all producing a different product line and seem to be independent holders of the Sandoz name and businesses. There are also different logos for Sandoz being used.

About Sandoz Hong Kong Display Backs
Sandoz Hong Kong has per 2005 stopped producing steel backs for all watch lines except the Diver's. Thus no more DateDate- and DateJust-likes with steel back available. In the past we were able to modify some of the models from display back to steel back profiting from a stock of steel backs which is now exhausted.

This information applies to all 40 mm Sandoz Hong Kong Sub-likes with a colored bezel insert (measured with electronic caliper): We have been selling Sandoz Hong Kong Diver's for a couple of years now and we have received several requests to supply bezel inserts. Also the most careful watch wearer will eventually scratch a bezel insert. We were never able to receive single bezel inserts as spare parts (Sandoz spare part policy), but we have decided to measure the bezel dimensions with an electronic caliper and thus make your eventual search for a bezel insert easier! Outer diameter is 36.40 mm, inner diameter is 30.70 mm. Of course we will continue our search and look for a quality aftermarket bezel insert. So please watch this space for news.
