Borel for Sale

Many watch friends have asked me to look out for inexpensive but Swiss Made NOS vintage watches. I have seen the Ernest Borel watches (the company exists since 1856 - exactly hundred years before my birth year) before, but to be honest, the logo with the dancers looked a bit outdated. Of course 1856 when the company was founded, wrist watches did not exist yet. But when looking closer, I found the watches had a very classic look and were very well made. If you want an inexpensive but Swiss Made Automatic, have a look at those Ernest Borel watches. And like me, you will be impressed by their great quality and finish and very representative packing: nice red box and nice outer cardbox. There are four Ernest Borel service centers listed for the USA, but actually any watchmaker can service an ETA 2824-2 or a 2836-2, which is based on the 2824 design. Those are commonly used Automatic movements that any watchmaker can service.

If you think Ernest Borel is just a brand like many, consider this: a Borel chronometer won the Neuchâtel observatory contest in 1866! 10 years after the company was founded! And they won this most prestigious contest again in 1870, 1875, 1876 and 1890. 1946 Borel was the 2nd largest producer of certified chronometers in the world! Source is the great watch book "Wristwatches - Armbanduhren - Montres Bracelet" from Koenemann Press. If you can only own one watch book and if you are a vintage collector, buy this one. It is written in English, German and French, I would have probably bought it just for that! The authors Gisbert L. Brunner and Christian Pfeiffer-Belli do not only provide historic information which cannot be found on the internet, but they also give you great watch pictures. One last word about Acrylic crystals found on a couple of NOS Borels on sale from PMWC! They are often underrated. They are light. They are extremely shock resistant. They are easy to polish and they are the least expensive crystals to replace!
