i-Control Alarm

If only the finish was a bit better on
this REEF GEAR TIMEX
It is really a great tool watch. With an hourly alarm and a daily alarm. If
you look closely, then you see a tiny metal prong protruding from the back of
the red minute triangle. If the minute hand passes that metal spring, the hourly
alarm will ring. Next to the date window you see the same little metal spring to
make contact with the hour hand for the daily alarm. A really ingenious electric
alarm mechanism. The two inner turning bezels are operated via the two crowns
and to make it easier for the user, TIMEX has put the operating manual on the
back of the watch case. Now that also makes a lot of sense.
I really like this watch a lot, if only the finish was a bit better. You will
see from the pictures of the back and open back and the case side that the
finish is really coarse. If you look closely at the lug at 1 o'clock in the
picture above, you will see that also the case front is brushed coarsely. The
outer bezel feels like cast aluminum and has a nice finish.
The crown at 4 o'clock is engaged with the inner rotating bezel that contains
the red MINUTE marker. The crown at 3 o'clock is engaged and locked with
both inner turning bezels. So the alarm times can be set via the outer turning
bezel or via the crown. Pulling the crown at 4 o'clock to the first position
means that the minute alarm is activated. Pulling the crown at 4 o'clock to the
second position means the daily alarm is activated. A really clever alarm
mechanism. And as mentioned before, the instructions are stamped into the case
back of the watch.
