First Indiglo 1993

The Back's finish is really poor
and the leather strap also looks 3rd grade. Amazingly those ugly
"factory scratched" case backs seem to be a consistent theme with
Timex watches. I was equally disappointed, when I found the same poorly polished case
back in 1999 on the i-Control. It is quite strange that such an inconsistent
quality control spoils an otherwise nice watch. The final polishing of the case
backs could not be that much of a price factor. Or Timex folks just
assume, what the customer does not see, does not bother them. TIMEX watches are
very affordable though...
The good news about TIMEX case backs is...
that TIMEX always indicates the battery type on the case back. Swatch and
other manufacturers sometimes give the battery dimensions. TIMEX goes further
and says 376 MA CELL and thus giving you all the battery information on
the outside of the watch! So you can shop for a new battery before the watch has
been opened. And that makes a lot of sense when you are traveling or if the
watch stopped while you are still in town.
Another good feature of this case back is the little triangular marker (just
above the X of TIMEX) that indicates the grove where to position the case opener
for this snap-on case. Once you are older and the eyes get weaker, indicators
like this make it really a lot easier to work efficiently. While I was first a
bit disappointed how poor the finish of case back is, after having detected that
TIMEX always indicates the battery type and indicates where to open the snap-on
case I am quite happy with it. I prefer to have these functional indicators and
if the case back finish really continues to bother me, I will simply polish it.
