About this Series, 25th August 2002
I had just come back from Hong Kong on last Thursday and found this watch in
my mail. Great timing to get it right into a "field test" in the real world! The
upcoming board retreat - do not let the pictures deceive you: the days are full
with meetings from morning til late and only if we are very lucky, we get to use
that pool for 30 minutes a day - seemed to be the right occasion.
Please see the "Uhrkraft Chronograph Review" here!
The
resort serves
as a "money machine" for social projects
And last but not least, the explanation of
the peculiar name of the resort "Cabbages & Condoms" (now called
Birds and Bees). An
authorized
biography by Thomas D'Agnes about Mr. Meechai Viravaidya is named "From
Cabbages to Condoms". Khun Mechai, a former minister and a philanthropist
and author made this famous statement: "I want people to accept contraceptives
the same way as they do soap and toothpaste". Cabbage is a very common vegetable
in Thailand and this already explains the rather unusual combination of "C&C".
The "C&C" resort is part of many projects of Mr. Mechai. The proceedings of the
resort and the five "C&C" restaurants (2006) are used to help schools and other
social development projects in the poorer (rural) regions of Thailand.
Population and Community
Development Association (PDA) is the name of the social organisation
which tries to help where the public hand doesn't. The
website is also in English,
not always the case with Thai organisations.
Best regards

PS If you want to stay at that
resort, book very early. It is pretty booked out most of the time, here is the
website of the
resort if you want to book a vacation there.
PS 2 Please note that the resort has recently changed the name to "Birds and
Bees", google it and you will find
