Lowy Watch Co.
All I have found on the internet is that a certain Mr. Lowy was a watchmaker
and curator of the
Museum
Victora (Melbourne, Australia). As soon as I have more information or as
soon as the link between my Lowy Watch Co. watch and Mr. Joseph Lowy
is confirmed, I will update this page.
The watch movement is from A. Schild, that is not surprising given the fact that
ASSA was one of the busiest Swiss movement supplier in the 50ies. According to
Dr. Ranfft's fantastic movement database the movement was released in
ca. 1945, is 10.5 ligne (23.3 mm) only 4.9 mm high and beats with 18'000
beats per hour (bph).
The watch case is stamped LES FILS DE P. BOURQUARD. Which translatses to
"Sons of P. Bourquard" which is in my eyes the French version of the Basel last
name Burkhardt (there are at least 4 ways of writing this last name in Basel,
that shows how popular it was).
