Why? Because of the water resistance that could be compromised! Divers use co called Dive Computers for diving and do not rely solely on their Diver's wrist watches. Because their lives might depend on the proper depth metering.
If you are not using this watch for SCUBA diving, then I think you can replace the battery by yourself. See the movement picture for more information. If you are using this watch for SCUBA diving, then it is safer if you let an Authorized Citizen Service Center change the battery. They will also perform a water resistance test after closing the watch.
