From this angle on the missing black paint filling
actually tells about the hour hand's tortures, the hand is straight and most
importantly to me, has a homogenous surface finish. I was thinking very hard
what to do, but then I decided I could not live with the straightened hand but
visible marks from the bent in the chromium surface. That is why I decided to
get rid of the chrome layer. I am actually quite happy with the result. A brand
new hour hand and aligned hands would be of course better, but still,
this was a very intensive but also great watch "making" experience.
I am now looking forward to buy a polishing machine and then try to restore some
of the flea market finds. The hands are in many cases the worst part of those
older watches.
