Arrival of 2 new Angular Momentum Watches: Axis Limited Edition 028/999 and Illum II Diving Watch, both ETA Cal. 2824 with RDS*
Foreword
This was the longest period both my wrists were naked as long as I
can remember. I traveled to Hong Kong on January 23rd 2003 not wearing any
watch. Because I was expecting to receive my two new Angular Momentum watches.
Then there was some shipping delay and finally the watches arrived on the first
day of the Chinese New Year. Although this is a great way to open the Lunar New
Year, it meant that the watches were not delivered for 3 days and that I had to
wait a total of 2 weeks. That is like eternity for a WIS... but it was worth
the wait, every day! ![]()
Remarkable really was how quickly I got used to read the time from the RDS (Revolving Disk System) watches. The hour is additionally printed on a smaller disk which also contains the hour hand. And after only 2 hours I realized that I was quickly glancing at the small triangle below the 60 marker to quickly read the time when I was not just contemplating the face of the new watch. Quite amazing that that adaptation took place so quickly. I guess the advantage over a Jumping Hour watch is, that one can read the fraction of an elapsed hour easily from the little disk. I would have never thought that I would use the digital information rather then the analog information the hands provide. Now I can really understand, why there is a patent on this way of reading time.
Also remarkable was the quality and the packing of the watches. Plus of course that the Axis Limited Edition came with a bracelet as well as with a nice black calf leather band (of course only for those that order the Axis Limited Edition on a steel bracelet). And that the Illum 2 Diving Watch also came with 2 rubber straps, a black and a white one. I had ordered the stainless steel bracelet version, so I did not expect the 2 rubber bands at all, a nice surprise.
Facit: I was really impressed by the quality of the watches and by the superb packing. The Neoprene pouch is a great traveling container. I really prefer those useful watch "boxes" over the wooden containers that will just collect dust. The watches are a lot nicer in person and even I tried hard, my pictures can barely do justice to the great and hefty feel those watches provide. And yet another correction, what I thought was Nylon is actually pure Neoprene, the stuff used to make dive suits.

*RDS means Revolving Disk System and AM is holding a Swiss Patent CH 686 988 B5 from 1979 for this system.
PS Actual packaging of AM watches might vary. The outer boxes and the Illum II brochures might not be in the package for international mail for weight reasons
