Re: Nice get. I am fairly certain that it's a redial, but I also am not real busted up about it because the dial was a selling point for me.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum New arrival - Omega green face Seamaster - 3 months ago
New acquisition, complete with small fuzzy friend. Good: dial is gorgeous, and has nice applied markers. Movement dates to 1954 (not 1952 as seller stated, but still.) Keeps time well. Has new Omega signed strap and buckle. Gold is still nice and even on case; isn't over-polished or brassed. Bad: I suspect it may be a franken; dial color/indices are a little casual for ultra-formal wearby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Incoming! Impulse purchase... - 4 months ago
Hi all, been ages since I've been on here because a) I have lots of watches and couldn't justify buying more and b) I've been very busy at work... well anyway I managed to kill my 009 so was online looking for a replacement, while trolling the 'bay I remembered that I'd always thought that I'd wanted a green-faced dress watch (I tend to wear lots of green, brown, etc. for some reason) so justby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum so sorry to hear that... - 1 year ago
been there, done that. got laid off just about 10 years ago, and the thing was the company did it only a week or two before I'd been at that job for six months - never mind that they'd recruited me and paid for me to move halfway across the country. The thing that sucked was because it was short of six months I had all sorts of hassles with unemployment because I had to file in my previous statby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum dumb shark mesh question. - 1 year ago
how do you size them? I'm considering pulling the trigger on one because I think it might look good on my Ministry SD. If there's a WIS type store near me where I could fondle the goods, I'm not aware of it...by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: Dakota Caribiner watch opener - 1 year ago
I'd probably try some shelf liner. I always have a couple scraps around as jar openers, etc. If that doesn't work, I second the squishy rubber ball recommendation.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Well, I *am* a chrono guy - 1 year ago
and I'm glad that it has a diver's bezel and not a tachymeter otherwise my wallet would be in a world of hurt. I really do need to acquire a working chrono one of these days.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: Vostok Amphibia - Opinions? - 1 year ago
The only one I have any experience with is a recent model "Scuba Dude" which is probably what you're thinking of... I know there's at least two different movements used as I'm pretty sure that the earlier ones were handwind and not automatic. Mine is an automatic but it does handwind as well. I'm pretty impressed with the little sucker, I posted in another thread that it seems to be 90% of theby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum For a Ministry cased Vostok... - 1 year ago
honestly, the best I could find out of my collection was a rubber waffle strap. I think DJM put his on one of the Maratac Elites and it looks good but I don't have one of them to try. I'm seriously thinking of a wide leather "mod" strap but I think if I get one it might go better with the 6139. Another option would be a shark mesh or Super Oyster with straight end links, but I can't give youby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Honestly, I like the styling of the 009 the best... - 1 year ago
...of the three, does this mean that I need to be on the lookout for a vintage Seiko diver? Or maybe I just need to put the Marathon on a NATO strap, like I've done with the 009... Although if it weren't for the lume, the Vostok would be my choice, because it's just funky as heck. Maybe I need to learn some reluming skillz.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: Nice score. I've been going back and forth on pulling the trigger on the blue on on eBay for a while now. You're not helping (the fact that the seller is not in the US is what's making me hesitate.)by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum 009 harder to wind than ETA or Vostok autos? - 1 year ago
OK, this is kind of an odd observation, because likely the situation isn't applicable to most people, but right now I don't have an alarm clock (I do, but it's elsewhere... have to move all of my stuff. Long story. Will be resolved early next week.) Anyway, what I've been doing is wearing a watch to bed at night so if I wake up and want to know what time it is, I can see. and for the record, "Por-sha" is not an affectation, it's the guy's surname. "Porsch" pushes my fur backwards, as a Person of German Descent.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum where to buy crown for Seiko 6139? - 1 year ago
subject says all... lost crown before I could get some locitite; only place I could find any listed for sale was from Phillippines-based eBay sellers, finally got replacement today - doesn't fit through tube. any ideas? Or just give up on this watch? (no big loss, it's got other problems as well and I don't have much in it.)by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum tritium is awesome, isn't it? - 1 year ago
I have to admit to wearing my GSAR to bed after I got it as well. It's just so cool... and useful.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Dave's not here, man - 1 year ago
... but on my Minstry-cased Scuba Dude, when I got it I could pull the bezel off with my fingers. I tightened up the spring some by making the bends more crisp, and I can still pull it off with my fingers, just with more difficulty :/by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: is that face GREEN? um, you don't want to sell it, do you? (I posted earlier asking for suggestions for a green faced watch, srsly.)by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: MicroMark has a very good selection of smaller bits and such.. - 1 year ago
wow, $12.95 for a set of #61-80 drill bits? buyng from Mcmaster-Carr would be about $45! thanks!by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: I'm not sure there's a Universally Accepted Springbar Hole Size. yeah, my smallest drill bits though are 1/16" and .040" - reason I ask is I am still trying to fix0r this old Seiko chrono case I mentioned the other day, but I may just cut my losses and start looking for another chrono to scratch the itch... super glue idea didn't work although it sounded like a good oneby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum How bout you sell me that car - 1 year ago
then you'll have more money for watches! I got scared off a similar vintage Caddy, seriously, when I found that some stuff was so unobtanium. The funny thing is that I have a '55 Studebaker and other than performance-related parts, I haven't really had much trouble finding anything that I needed for it.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum what size is a spring bar hole/end? - 1 year ago
Apparently it's smaller than a #60 drill bit or .040". Need to buy more tools I guess...by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: Anti-stripping tip - 1 year ago
yes, I knew that, but that's good advice anyway and I'm sure some readers haven't been told that.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: Ever make a slight change in your lifestyle to "feed" your auto? - 1 year ago
Hah. As I've "collected" more watches, I'm starting to gravitate away from Seikos for reasons of power reserve. If I'm rotating through 2-3 watches rather than wearing the same one all the time, I don't like that I can't handwind a Seiko. Also, it might seem like heresy to some, but I find the screw down crown on my 009 rather un-reassuring feeling compared to a Marathon or even a lowly Scubby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Getting in touch with my inner James Dean - 1 year ago

As an alternative, I've worn my 009 on a Maratac NATO - looks pretty good IMHO and doesn't detract from the "diverness" of the watch.by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: that's how it was done at the factory - 1 year ago
good to know, thanks. didn't know if there was any special super short drill that was used to get in there - although this is 3/4" not 22mm so it'd be even harder to do! I tend to be pretty handy, but I'm more used to working on things like internal combustion engines, not little things you strap on your wrist, so I didn't want to just go charging in without some reassuranceby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum there's something in my spring bar hole... - 1 year ago
Mr. UPS man brought me a package from O. Frei today so the first thing that I did was put some new spring bars on my Vostok (I trust their QC more than I do the Russians'...) and also on a watch I haven't actually worn, a beater 6139 - which I got with two really tenuous feeling spring bars, so the only time I wore it was around the house after I got it in the mail. Now one of the new spring barby N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum Re: have a box of 100 stainless flanged springbars handy at all times - 1 year ago
you mock, but my package from O. Frei should be here tomorrow, if UPS is to be believed (I've got at least two watches that really ought to get new spring bars ASAP... one I won't even wear without them)by N8N - Poor Man's Watch Forum |
