...I like the fully marked timing bezel insert. While you're at it, make the hands longer too. The minutes hand should extend almost to the marks on the bezel insert, for easy reading of time elapsed, down to the minute. makes the timing bezel much more useful. See how they did it on the old Seamaster Pro? Very little chance the interviewer will notice my watch. I would wear a dress watch anyway of course, but I don't dwell on it any more than I would before choosing a watch any other day.by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Kind of... - 5 weeks ago
I sold my Rolex Explorer, last of the 36mm ones. I wish I still had it, but I put myself in a bit of a financial pinch to get it, which I relieved by selling it. So I can't regret it too much. Wound up "replacing" it with a Bernhardt Binnacle Anchor, which is about 90% the watch the Rolex was, at a price that didn't make me sweat. Quite possibly the best (technically speaking) all-around watch that money can buy. That is only my biased opinion though.by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Vintage Omega Seamaster today - 6 weeks ago
Feels just perfect under a shirt sleeve. Today, it matches perfectly too; the chocolate brown strap matching my shirt, and the creamy dial matching by contrast. Wish I had a pic to show how well I have my act together today. ...at least for watch coordination, hehehe.by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Fun. - 6 weeks ago
The red BMW, is that yours? Got any more pix? I was just thinking that your old man should wear a helmet; I thought it was obligatory in CA? But what the hell, he's 89. I guess if he doesn't want to, it shouldn't really have to.by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Whoops! Did he forget the WRUW icon, or did I just miss it? - 7 weeks ago

QuoteDave M I'm somewhat intrigued... the 4th wheel is so often exactly 90 or 180 degrees from the stem position. I wonder if this is a variant of a movement that usually has a center seconds hand. If it is indeed the Sea-Gull movement that is used in my M186S, then this is almost certainly the case. Hector: I don't mind that the sub-second isn't exactly at 6. How 'bout y'all?by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum I need another watch like a hole in the head, but I'm still drawn to this one, weeks after first seeing it. At $143, it is not too expensive, and seems to be a nice smaller alternative to the German Deck Watch style. (although this one is automatic, instead of hand-wound) I like the Breguet-style hands, italic arabics, and clean dial layout. Too bad the version I like is not the one with the sby Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum One of my favorites, and it reminds me why I like PMWs so much.by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Casio AMW-320 today - 7 weeks ago

...actually making smaller sizes too. You're eliminating a lot of customers by going 42mm +by Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum The prior owner said he liked this Five, but he considered it too small for him at 38mm. So far, after wearing it through yesterday evening, overnight, and all of today, here's how I feel about it: + Bold markers and minutes/hours hands, but still dressy + Red seconds hand is not immediately visible, which makes time-telling at-a-glance quicker than it woby Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Here's my current collectionby Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Meet-up report - 7 weeks ago
Only four of us wound up coming, but it was a good time anyway. We all remembered each others' names. My favorite two watches of the meet were this vintage octagonal Caravelle and this Khaki King. The Caravelle just has so much...CHARACTER, and the Khaki King manages to be both dressy and utilitarian at the same time. For some reason, Khaki Kings can often be found at a lower price than thby Smaug - Poor Man's Watch Forum Sharp watch, sharp pix - 8 weeks ago

I changed the battery on a buddy's dressy Raymond Weil at work yesterday night, and was reminded one of the advantages of quartz: with careful job changing batteries, the only work this watch will ever need is gaskets and maybe bracelet replacement. So I wore my Swatch Red Sunday today.
