The movement was originally made for pocket watches but the transition aspect here is the case. American Watch Case Company provided this modified case specifically to make it a wrist watch. Most evident here is the fact that the case back hinge is at a 90 degree angle to the strap whereas the hinge location if the lugs were welded on a pocket watch would be at the 6 or 9 location of the dial.
