Or at least once, in the case of a watch with a 24-hour movement. ;-) Anyway, as I mentioned a couple of weeks back, I recently did a trade with greg honeycutt. Greg got one of my custom-machined watch cases. So what did I get? Glad you asked! I got a couple of busted watches. ;-) LOL!

Well.. a little more than that. Also a bare case and some bezel inserts. The case and one of the bezel inserts became the basis for the Cavemaster, a watch I'm insanely in love with, modest as its pedigree and credentials are.

The other bezel insert was mated to an Alpha case I got from Wen, to became the Caveman Alpha Submariner Mk. II (there's also an update HERE). OK, that covers the parts. Now let's see one of the busted watches;

Yup, 'tis the infamous "Smoking gun Alpha", the one that proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that, in some cases, ALPHA! does simply re-brand fakes with their own logo. Or at least did so back in 2004-2006. Only thing wrong with this one, as far as I know, is that the stem-release mechanism is kaput. Might just need to be reset but, unfortunately greg lost the stem and crown. EEK! How's the search goin', greg? RAGE!

Just Kidding! LOL!

No, while I'm not adverse to gettin' the watch operational again, I value it mostly as a curiosity.

There's definitely some wabi, even on internal parts like dial and hands. But that's not surprising, as it's my understanding that the movement-dial-hands kicked around in greg's junk pile for a year or two. As far as I can tell, though, the fit, finish, and build quality were probably pretty darned good.

And, by the way, you can read greg's original PMWF post from 2006 about this watch HERE.

Thanks for lookin' y'all!

Got a catchy name in mind for that one? "Royal Joke" or something? Laughing (n/t)
