Re: Welcome to PMWF! to the PMWF, well you will find all kinds...

I did wonder about those inexpensive watches like the Vostok Amphibia and some of the Parnis watches and some others I saw. The ones that are shipped from the 'country of origin' would seem to be fantastic values - but if you spend $75 on a watch and then it needs repair... it doesn't seem to make sense. You'd spend more repairing it than replacing it. So it's almost a gamble in that sense. And some of the so-called German watches I've seen...??? They aren't really German (as you all know) and that also bothers me - they are probably made in China and who knows if they are actually good??? I saw SO many Parnis watches - and even an Ingersoll Bison #11 - but I really wondered about the value proposition. I'm left handed - and I was LOVING some of the Parnis designs with the big canteen/canon features on the left side. But I don't think I'd buy a Parnis watch. Watchismo has a lot of great 'designs' on there - but quality is also dubious in my price range I think. Unfortunately, I also found that a lot of the watches that keep getting recommended really all start to look pretty much the same - divers, chronographs, etc. I know there is 'elegance in simplicity' but I have to say that I find some of the designs to be atrociously boring (to me - please don't be offended). Hamilton watches, for example - just put me to sleep. I guess they are 'classics'- but I'm much more interested in something with some zing to it. And I'm also sorry, but one watch I will NEVER buy is an Invicta. I just have a gut instinct that they are junk. So- for me finding interesting designs at a sub-$500 price point will be my goal in the coming years I think. But I just don't see the point in buying watches- however great - that look 90% the same as the last one... Maybe I'll change my mind when actually faced with the choices.
