It's a happy day, a new watch arrived Lord Elgin auto dresswatch mild resto Smile

While looking for spares for another Lord Elgin diver, ran across and acquired this neat looking, rather large and very late-model 10micron Gold-plated ETA auto & hand-wind Lord Elgin in excellent running condition for what seemed a giveaway price. While not a big fan of gold in general, I needed some type of dresser (this is my excuse) and totally lacked any kind of gold in the watch-palette.

As expected, and as pics show, this was fairly grimy and aged but the seller pics showed a great piece just waiting to be brought back to service. Case back and movement looked pretty good actually, with the exception of some unsympathetic case-back opening I am crying

With a few hours of elbow grease, aided by my trusty friend blue magic polish the piece cleaned right up and has been running and keeping perfect time. Note the min hand has lost its lume but I'm getting used to that among many vintage and the hands are common, easy to locate NOS. I'll probably just leave the hands and lift the lens and brush the dial if the loose lume gets to me. I'm in the process of getting a slightly more exciting strap which will befit the size & case color better but basic black is working for now.

In any event, here it is! Smile
