Ideally a WIS should do research before buying a watch, but sometimes you just have to buy when it's the time to buy. This Mido 8269 originally belonged to local forumer Ed Brandwein who had it custom beadblasted by Duarte of North East Watch Works. Duarte is known for his excellent beadblasts. Ed passed it along to another local forumer Wen who wore it for a week then stashed it away for years. Wen passed it along to me this Saturday at the NYC Bill Yao GTG for an excellent price because I'm a watch buddy & also because he knows I'm a cheap bast*rd! Thank you! guys. Smile

Ed or Wen's pic.

Midos were quite popular on the forum several years ago. It represents excellent value for Swiss Made Eta automatics. There are quite a few models but the Commander line seems to be the most popular. Here's an example from Reto's personal collection on integrated mesh.

This Mido from PMWC has the original polished finished & additional bling. My example uses the same applied markers with a different finish without bling.

I measure 37mm across excluding the recessed singed crown. The original acrylic crystal is 34mm across which means the watch wears more like a 39-40mm watch. The crown does not screw down but it has 100m WR thanks to a patented cork crown seal system. Water resistance is not mentioned anywhere on the dial & one piece case, but Mido was famous for decent water resistance in Asia during the 70's & 80's. The movt is ETA-2836 with a day wheel in English & slanted Roman numerials. I was very pleased when the day wheel jumped instantaneously last night because I'm used to wearing Seiko & Orient autos where the day wheel slooowly changes over from midnight to 3am. The bracelet tapers to 11mm at the nicely signed clasp w/ milled deployant giving the watch an additional vintage look. yeoman has an excellent comparison between 2 Mido Commanders here:
