Last Friday I went to the court house to apply for my Firearms Carry permit. It’s not that I’ll be toting this thing around; but If I do I want to be legal. After all these years of being off the radar, the FBI now has my number.
Then I went to a gun warehouse just to look. I had wanted this particular model for some time. Well of course they had it on sale and it was going to end the next day. It is a Sig Sauer SP2022 .40 cal. It is an awesome gun with plenty of impact. It has a 3.9” barrel and is between a full size and a compact. Great size, feel and weight.
Needless to say, looks like I will have to start saving up again.

I also just ordered this very cool Blackhawk Serpa CQC paddle lock holster.

Thanks for looking.

Five days of sickly walmart flashlights and gasp (candle light) will do that to you. I found the candlepower website yet again and did some quick reading. I've grabbed a couple of Jet beams, a BC10 and a slightly higher end PC10 with more modes and better anodizing and Bronte AA and a Jetbeam dual AA BA20. Its amazing how technology has advanced from the Luxeon's of a decade ago. 200+ lumens out of a double AA flashlight staggers the mind. Took some pics of the two CR123 Jetbeams and my old Jil DD CR2 light.
Cell phones SOTC :) >>> (6 replies)

It was a very good collecting year for cell phones. I love to play with different phones and their operating systems. The technical progress is probably the fastest for mobile phones.

January 2012: my trusted Nokia N900 had to go for repair and Nokia Care said it would take a long time for the spare parts to arrive. So I bought the N9. The design was a real novelty and I still think it is one of the most beautiful phones out there.

March 2012: bought the Nokia 500 in order to see/experience the Symbian operating system for a last time. Call it technological nostalgia. Nokia said to support Symbian until 2016. The last firmware upgrades Belle FP1 (Carla) and FP2 (Donna) are being rolled out now.

June 2012: bought the Galaxy S3 - the Ferrrari of Android phones. This is my first Android phone and it was like a dream come true. Feature packed and fun to use. It felt like a different world compared to the Meego N9.

November 2012: I was curious to see what a mid-range Android phone would offer in comparison to the Galaxy S3: the new htc Desire X (at half of the price of the Galaxy S3 unlocked) seemed like a good choice. And after a week of owning it, I am very pleasantly surprised. At half the price of the Nokia N9 and the Galaxy S3, this is a great phone from htc. Sure it can not do everything the Galaxy S3 can, but at 50% of the cost, it is a real winner.

How many and what phones are in your rotation?

The design is super cool!

It comes as a flat card the same size as a credit card and 2mm thick:

You disengage the rotating safety stud, releasing the blade which swings up:

Then you wrap the sides around which clip together and lock the blade in the extended position:

And 'voila', one very sturdy, extremely sharp knife!

On closer inspection the ones available here seem to be a generic rip-off of the originals - this is a shame but a) they're all I can get here and b) it's actually quite well made, especially the blade. subjectsmiley01!

Amazing 3D mapping/routing/navigation app "Nokia City Scene" for N9 users only >>> (5 replies)

just installed this amazing app from the Nokia Store. Remember, you need a Nokia N9 to use this app.

From the description of the app:
Which cities you have covered now? London, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisville, Miami, New York, Newark-Jersey City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle.

Why would Nokia invest so much money into an application like this one? I am quite sure that Nokia is preparing software to finally make a stand in the US market with the new Windows Phone 8 phones (Lumia 920, Lumia 800). So right now Nokia N9 (Meego, linux based OS) are the guinea pigs for this marvelous app.

Dowload instructions at this link: http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/nokia-city-scene

pic credit [www.symbiantweet.com]

To me the most amazing feature is that you can SEE your navigation route in the panorama view. Well, for Google Streetview users this is nothing new. Google maps allows you to see your blue route when in street view mode.

You can also prefetch the panaromas you are going to need beforehand so save data costs.

What is a new feature is that you see shop/business signs as an overlay in the panoramas, of course clickable to get more info.

As customers of smartphones there have never been better times. The tech giants are battling, that is always the best for us buyers.

Once I got all my individual pieces of gear situated in the individual pockets, it's become pretty intuitive when I reach for a specific piece of gear.
Another nice Gerber product... (4 replies)

I don´t carry this particular knife on a daily basis, but it has happened in the past. It´s not really pant pocket-sized, with a blade that is close to 4", and a somewhat bulky handle to match... no pocket clip either. It mostly nested in a nice belt pouch that came with it. Obviously it could go into a case or bag just as easily. I used to have a pair of these, but the well worn twin got dumped in a place were it wasn´t convenient to retrieve it, to say the least.

It´s a Gerber Gator II, US made, feels very solid and nicely made. Someone took care to build it right. I really like the shape and flow of the knife, and it is very ergonomic to handle. The opening and closing action is silky smooth. And, it´s hair flinging, shaving sharp. Came that way from the factory, and still is. The way knifes are supposed to be. I used to touch up the one I carried with a small ceramic stick, and it just needed a few swipes to put back the factory edge even after hard use.

The price was a proverbial bargain all things considered. I don´t remember the exact sum but in PMWF-terms it surely was in the price range most of us could afford.

I got a new knife to try out for EDC (8 replies)

I've been aware of Spyderco for a long time and I've owned a few of them, but I moved away from them when I got into knives with G10 scales and liner locks. I've discovered that the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 has a lot of fans so I bought this limited model to try out. Besides the special color of G10 it has a blade of M390 steel which is one of the top stainless steels these days for knives. Spyderco styling is somewhat unconventional but so far it seems to actually work well.

I have to find out the facing direction of a building for load calculations. It is also fun to check the temp when I get back in my truck after sitting in the sun. subjectsmiley02!

I've seen the light! EDC keychain upgrade... (3 replies)

I've been pretty happy with my existing 'spotlight' micro-light and have found it useful on many occasions for finding key-holes and even lighting a footpath at night. I spotted this eGear Picolite online for a measly $10 (including postage to Australia from the US!) so I thought I'd give one a try. It turned up today and my first impression was how nicely made and machined it is. Then I switched it on and...holy cow! It's barely larger than my old keychain light but boy does it pump out some light. It's rated at 10 Lumens and about a 10 metre (30ft) range! In the third pic BOTH the torches are switched on and you can see what I mean - this thing is absolutely awesome for its size and a really worthwhile upgrade - highly recommended! subjectsmiley65!subjectsmiley65!subjectsmiley65!
