subjectsmiley61! Casio G-Shock MR-G120 arrived!! subjectsmiley87! (8 replies)

This one took also a bit longer then I expected, being just 3, 3.5 car hours from my home, but well, yes, it has to cross the border of France and the border of Belgium to reach me... subjectsmiley84!

It's not a large watch in ø, but it is definitely not a run-of-the-mill model. As the seller told me, it has a strap-mod. Not the original strap, but a brand new Morellato, type Cordura Lorica water-resistant strap on it with 2 year warranty and anti-allergic. Cloth on the outside, fine leather on the inside. Still I'd prefer the original Titanium bracelet, but I guess, that will be hard to find, certainly for a reasonable price. (A few years one was sold for around 35 euro's, considering the price I paid, a bit less then 1/2 of my watch incl. shipping! ;) ) All in all, this watch indeed looks pristine, 2 tiny scratches @ 8, but that is not a biggie at all. Backplate is from the orignal watch this movement came out, so stainless steel, the rest is Titanium. This a very simple watch, just time, nothing else and a night light in blueish tint. It came in a cardboard box, inside a nice paper box from Casio and then a nice Padded box (picture) with little cushion. Very nice indeed! Quite happy as now I have a little collection of 's ;)

Adventures in battery changing...subjectsmiley11! (4 replies)

My type 100 had it's numbers fading out, when I pushed the illumination button. Sure thing the battery was reaching the end of it's life, so I ordered a couple of 1216. Not that I need more then one, but it's cheaper to buy 2 then one subjectsmiley10!

I expected a straightforward battery change, just remove the battery under it's tab and put a new in it's place. Shock and awe.... subjectsmiley08! First a metal plate, then a rubber/plastic kind of distance ring with nobs on it. Then the battery was enclosed on his own plastic island under metal braces! 4 Tiny screws (don't loose them!!!!), then undo the braces, one with a little tab keeping it locked, and then finally the Maxell (according to the inside of the back changed in '08) could be taken out. According to my battery tester, there was 2.6 V left, just enough for the digits to work, but not enough for the light at the same time... If I remember right, the new cell was 3.5 V or something. OK, in the same order back.... No digits!!! subjectsmiley07!
Maybe I had to put everything back in place to get digits? Nope, still nothing subjectsmiley14! Once again back to the start. I could take the whole movement out and took the screws out again. Under the battery there was a little rubber ring, more like a round plate with a hole in the middle. I turned it around, there seemed to be a bit of silver where it touched the bottom of the battery. Nothing I could scrape off or something so I just flipped it upside down. Put everything together and all of a sudden: Digits!!subjectsmiley15! ( sunday, 1-1-95 it said. OK for me, I had a starting point! Carefully put everything back together, puzzling how the rubber ring sat on top of the battery 'container'. Finally everything together and checking the buttons, everything worked A-OK! Went to the internet to find the exact right time and set the watch 18 years and 3+ month to the future and done! subjectsmiley83!

Sorry for the last picture, I did not want the flash to mess up the dial, but now it's unsharp.... subjectsmiley07!

Which is what I ended up buying. And what a cool watch it is. It's smaller than I expected (in a good way) - I just love the dial :D
Here are some Q&D pics, more will follow when I manage to get some decent light :D

Supposedly a rare version (Im novice collector, so I don't know). This version has has "20 Bar" across the top as opposed to the US version "200M".

Please let me know which you all would consider and why. Thank you!

**Sidenote**

Also, I have a chance to purchase a DW5200. I'm not too familiar with this series. It looks extremely similar to the 5600. Opinions?? I got mine from a Canadian ebayer. Amazon still has the white ones.

I was looking for a pretty specific feature set, and I wasn't sure I could find it in a G-Shock, other than the old GW-5600E.

Solar/atomic

Kind of on the dressy side

Countdown timer

At least one multifunction alarm

Not too big for my small wrist (6-7/8" or 174mm) (It's 42mm)

Not too big to fit under shirt sleeves (it's 14mm thick and has rounded edges)

The problem features are the multifunction alarm and countdown timer, which are not on that many models of G-Shock any more.

It's feels great so far. Casio has improved on their already great G-Shock ergonomic design by covering the screws for the back with rubber, so it pulls even less hair than my old GW-5600E. The inside of the strap is concave, so there's less resin in contact with the wrist, and it doesn't seem to get as sweaty as my old 5600.

The stainless steel bezel is kind of a classy touch, in my opinion.

We'll see how it fares, long-term.
