"Keeping Up Appearances" (1 reply)

Greetings,
I'm new to this site, although a seasoned WIS, I've always the read forums and threads here to answer my most difficult watches-in-movies questions. Well, here's my first case:
In the hysterical "britcom" "Keeping Up Appearances", only one watch is featured regularly through the entire few-year run of the show; it's worn by the late Geoffrey Hughes who plays an ironically intellectual yet lower-class "bum". From the few clear, yet low-quality shots (all old British shows have nasty video quality), I can only tell that he's wearing an analogue watch; It looks like one of the early Luminox-style watches, but they didn't exist at the time of the start of the show. It would most likely be a cheap watch, if the costume department had some common sense. I can't post any pictures from my phone, but if you search for an image on google; you can't miss the watch in his portraits.

Thanks in advance;
SuperScope96

He takes it into a watch maker and comes back to pick it up and the watch maker says that the watch is fine but it won't work and for him to get it out of his shop before it infects the other watches. It must be posessed or something. I believe that the plot is the guy is being framed for a murder. I remember at the end of the movie he is sitting on the side of his bed with a gun to his head and just as he pulls the trigger to commit suicide he looks at the clock on the nightstand and see's the time. It's the same time that his watch had been stopped on for weeks. He then jerks his head only getting grazed by the bullet. When he comes to his watch is working again.

John Gage had on what looked to be a two register chronograph, but I couldn't tell exactly what it was...does anyone know what it is?

For those of you who aren't familiar with the show, it told the story of two L.A. County fire department paramedics, John Gage and Roy deSoto. Pretty cool and pretty realistic for the time.

Respectfully,
Fifty Fathoms

That story was published yesterday, here is my exerpt:

Quote

James Enloe has a blog where he collects pictures of characters in movies wearing wristwatches, a screengrab of Clint Eastwood's Rolex being a typical entry. Enloe notes that Eastwood's GMT Master "Root Beer" Rolex has made a cameo in (at least) Firefox, Tightrope and In The Line of Fire. It's a collection that couldn't exist without the internet. Or at least without the watch community as empowered by the internet.

"The watch community, that's the juice behind the blog," James says of WatchesinMovies.info "I receive about a half a dozen submissions a week from viewers who see a watch in a movie and take the time to grab a screenshot and send it my way."

You can read the full article here: Curating online: Hobbies for the hipsters

RIP Ryan Dunn :-( >>>>> (no replies)

Damn shame. I've been watching Dunn since the late 90's with CKY and later Jackass, he was always my favorite of that crew. It was nice to see him doing some things outside of the Jackass umbrella with the not-yet-released "Living Will" and G4's Proving Ground. He was apparently a Breitling fan from the two images I have, one back in the earlier part of the decade and the other from this year.

RIP, Ryan, your humor (and beard) will be missed.

"The International" (2009) with Clive Owen in the main role shows a sniper >>> (1 reply)

preparing for the kill of Mister Calvini in Milan. For less then a second, you can see his wrist watch. The scene is where he fires one bullet on a shooting range with gloves on. That shell is later used to frame another shooter who is killed by the police (cover up of the real sniper).

The watch looks to be a Titanium satin brushed "monster", at least 15 mm high. I watched it on cable (CNN Asia) and our current TV setup is not capable of producing crips screen captures. But if you have the DVD, you would be able to that the side picture of the watch easily.
