Visited the "G-Factory" where they have THOUSANDS of different models/colour variations, including NOS 5600s with hang-tags and all, a crapload of limited editions, and all the newest gear. Came out with this one...I've shyed away from reverse display until now, but this one was so clear in all conditions. My first Mudman too, and the rubber bumps on the back are awesome to keep the watch in place and comfy...

Highlights? The comfort of the GXW on the wrist, given the fact that it's almost the size of some peoples' fist..It's got comfy rubber on the back though, and sits niiiice.

Jake B

When I replaced the crown, I put it back the same way I removed it, or so I thought, but now the crown is apparently too deep, as when I turn the crown to screw it back into it's ring, the hands move. I also cannot set the watch, as the crown seems to be too far into the movement. I know this doesn't sound right, but I am describing the problem as best I can.

My questions to the forum are: Number 1...what did I do wrong.
Number 2...what can I do to fix what I have done wrong.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, as a side note, the glue recommended by the Forum,G-S Hypo Cement..worked great.

Thanks in advance,

MTGC (Michael)

It was a Nasa themed episode where the chef contestants had to cook a meal that would be later freezed dried for the astronauts in space.
Well there was a part where 2 astronauts from the space station were floating around and couldn't make out the watches they wore. They both wore 2 watches on the same wrist.
I'm curious as to what they were wearing. Those watches were definitely not the Seiko Spacewalk, Speedy, X-33, but did seem interesting. One looked like it could be a G-shock, and the other a big chrome tool watch thats for sure.
Sorry no screen shots. :(
I'm a bit fascinated by what astronauts wear in space. Very cool. I need to get me an X-33 someday.

If anybody seen that show, and has any ideas, please share. ;)

Cheers, Dave.

It hasn't been two weeks that I sold the last of my three 6309's, a beautifully modded job that I loved dearly. So What do I do? Start all over, of course!

First of all, I am from that school of thought that believes the 6309 is one of the baddest asses in the world of PM watches. They have size, style, reliability, are great for modding and may be even better in all original form.

Second of all, check out the lineage of this piece!: Kelly Rayburn, Riddim Driven, me!

Third, this is on one of those bracelets Yobokies sells, and let me tell you, it is superior to a Watchadoo! Talk about smooth and hefty! Butter!

According the descriptions that accompany it, it has a "mint condition genuine dial. The big dot bezel insert is genuine. The hands are new flat aftermarket hands. The crystal is a new flat mineral with the frosted edge as per the original.

This watch has a refinished case that has no scratches on the case or caseback and only a slight flat spot at the tip of the upper right lug. The caseback may have been a little overpolished around the wave in the past, but it really is quite nice with no deep scratches or heavy tool marks.

The watch has all new gaskets, including a new crown gasket, and was pressure tested by Duarte at NEWW. You could dive with this watch with no issues. The best feature is that it has a new old stock 6309 movement and keeps excellent time. The crown tube threads have approximately four finger turns and the genuine crown screws down securely and works properly.

The bezel ratchets very nicely with audible clicks. The original insert has some marks, (I already have another on its way). The color of the lume on the dot matches the dial markers and hands. The dial markers, lume dot, and hands have not been relumed. I think the dial is too nice to relume.

Nothing to do but put this one on and wear it. I would rate this watch overall in excellent condition."

The stuff in italics is from Kelly's original post when he sold it to Adam and the description still fits the watch.

So, I am back in the 6309 fold, feel a little more complete, and it is indeed a happy day! :)!

Thank you Adam!

Thanks for looking!

subjectsmiley81! Guitar vs. Watch question...any musicians? (15 replies)

It seems a little slow here tonight so I'll try and tap some of the knowledgeable craniums round here.

I have a guitar. Apparently a nice one. Problem is...I don't know how to play it. Even more problematic is, even if I was to learn to play, this would not be the correct guitar to learn on. It is a rather high end flamenco guitar. Long story behind all that.

Anyway, I have had thoughts of trying to trade it for a lower end proper acoustic. But my buddy has several and tells me he will loan me one. (our back and forth loans are generally permanent and mutual) Plus the music shops are not super keen on trading down and giving away cash.

So this leaves me with contemplating an outright sale. I know how to do the pricing research and all, but how in the world do you ship a guitar safely?? It has a hard case, and I know i could pack it in a big honking box with padding. But are there other considerations to keep it safe?

Obviously my interest would be to turn it into a watch. Being green around instruments has me unsure of how and where to proceed.

Thanks for any ass-is-tense.

After a very long time, it's finally an subjectsmiley61! for me! (20 replies)

After a very very long time, I finally have a change in my watch collection. An addition! For quite some time I've been more focused on photography, spending more $$ there. But a while back I got a hankering to get a new watch. Part of why I haven't changed anything in my collection was because I liked what I had & felt no need for any changes. But part of it was to spend time and really distill what characteristics I like in a watch. I narrowed it down to this list:

- Simplicity. Simple, straightforward dial, easy to read, nothing much cluttering it up. No date? No problem - simpler dial!
- Size. Even though my 7.25" wrist can support bigger watches, I've found that 39-41mm is my sweet spot.
- Thin. Granted, mechanical watches generally won't be as thin as quartz watches, but to me thinner always wears nicer than thicker. Generally this rules out Big Chunky Divers to me. Besides, those are mostly 44mm+ (see previous point).
- Unique. I'd like for the watch I wear to be something a little different. Homages are fine, but have a twist of your own to make a mark.
- Value. I've picked up a few RMW's, and while they're quite nice looking I'm finding I get the same enjoyment out of a well made inexpensive watch.

One of the watch maker's I've come to really like is Bernhardt, as evidenced by my collection of the 3 Officer's watches handwinders. When Fred posted pics of his Binnacle Anchor earlier this summer, I knew this watch was one I wanted. Today, it finally arrived!

This watch hits all the right points for me. 40mm in size, looks perfect on the wrist. Nice and thin on the wrist, probably 10 or 11mm. Wears thin because it doesn't have a huge bezel on it, yet still retains a solid 200m water resistance rating. Big, simple, easy to read dial with no date! I absolutely love it! Cool anchor on the seconds hand, and a neat built-in bracelet end-piece for unique touches. Bernhardt's absolutely astounding and rock solid bracelet, and a leather strap as well. Handwindable movement - a must for me. And all of this for a great price. I knew when I saw the prototype pics that I would like it, today I get to see just how good of a job Fred did with this watch.

Here's a few quick pics of the watch. Ignore the dust specs, I didn't blow them off before shooting.

Watch face:

Explorer like case, just a little bigger. Flat sapphire crystal, nothing bulging out for me to hit on a door frame or something like that.

Lug + bracelet:

This shot best shows the various polished / brushed surfaces on the watch. The bezel is polished, as are the sides of the watch. The tops of the lugs are brushed, as are the sides of the bracelet. The center of the bracelet is nicely polished.

Profile shot:

Nice and thin, Bernhardt's 'B' engraved crown (screw down), lots of adjustment in the bracelet, and a solid metal bracelet with screws holding the links together.

All in all, a great watch that I'm ecstatic to have in my collection.

I received the final iteration last month and for the past three weeks have been working on regulating the watch by hand.

It was running 15 minutes fast / day. I now have it almost spot on +1-2 seconds per day. The thing that struck me while regulating was that in different positions the watch will run fast or slow by as much as 10-15 seconds in either direction, but on average if the watch is left on its back at night and worn during the day I'm now seeing +1-2 seconds per day.

Regards,
Dan
