INTRODUCTION

All about Registration at PMWF

You will need to register on PMWF in order to post messages. You will also have to allow cookies in order to logon and post:

Cookies problem? (You can logon, but you do not see the Post New Message link)

You will have to allow cookies in order to successfully logon to PMWF. Because your PMWF name and password and preferences are stored in a cookie. Normally you find the cookie settings in the security settings of your browser. Or simply use the browser help to search for "cookies".
If you are using IE 6.x: simply  Go to Tools... Internet Options... Tab Privacy... click "Edit" and add pmwf.com to the list of Managed Web sites. That doesn't reset your global cookie security! Firefox works very similar. Go to Tools, Options, make sure you click on Privacy on the left and then expand (+) Cookies. Click on Exceptions. Enter at the Address of the website: www.pmwf.com and click Allow. And that is it already! There is a picture further down this page which shows the Options screenshot of Firefox.

Zone Alarm or other personal Firewalls in place?

If you are on Broadband/ADSL/Cable and constantly connected to the internet you might have to modify e.g. your ZoneAlarm settings besides your browser settings. ZoneAlarm (link makes an actual Google search for you) is just one of the many personal Firewall products available. Modifying your ZoneAlarm settings is very similar to the procedure described above. Please check the ZoneAlarm Help for further information. And since we talk about ZoneAlarm settings, please note that the automatic PMWF Icon Insertion (based on JavaScript) might not work if you disable Java Scripting in your ZoneAlarm settings. The same is of course true if you disabled Java Scripting in your Internet Explorer's Advanced Security settings, the automatic icon insertion will not work either.

You are sure that you have typed your username and password correctly, have allowed pmwf.com to your Managed Web sites list, have cleared all the temporary internet files and you still get the Invalid Password error? Relax and send your LOGON NAME to the Admins.

Besides being able to post, registration at PMWF has other benefits: your profile is visible to the community! If you want, you can post a picture and a link to your home page and tell the PMWF community a bit about yourself. Of course this is all up to you. The PMWF logon name and a valid email address to receive the initial password are the only required fields. After you received your initial password at the email address supplied (takes about 5 seconds) yuo simply logon for the first time and edit your profile and email address as you please. This is all explained in detail below. You will never get unsolicited mail from PMWF, the profiles are to prevent you from being attacked anonymously and not a demographic tool.

Discounts for registered PMWFers
In addition, an increasing number of online watch sites will offer "Registered PMWFers" special discounts. Please note that you mention "Registered PMWFer" when ordering from those sites. You will find their banners inside every PMWF post. In addition you will find temporary discounts offered by online watch sellers in the PMWF header.

Now please proceed to the 4 simple Steps for Registration. Thank you for registering on PMWF and have fun posting in our friendly and knowledgeable watch community.

User Registration at PMWF in 4 simple Steps
(takes less then a minute!)

Step 1: [Create Profile]

Click on the button or click on [Create Profile] link and you will come to the screen below. Enter your PMWF name, e.g. John Smith and a VALID email address, e.g. John@mymail.com. It is very important that you enter a valid email address without NOSPAM tags at this first time of the profile creation! Because the PMWF server will send the initial password to this email address. You will need this initial password to edit your profile in the next step.

Please select your screen name (PMWF profile name) carefully: per Rule 10 of the "Community Guidelines" you are not allowed to change it afterwards
The forum software will not allow you to change your PMWF Profile name yourself and please also note, that per the "Community Guidelines (posting rules for both the discussion and the sales forum) you are also not allowed to have multiple profiles, because it slows down the forum considerably. We will permanently monitor the profiles (registered PMWFers) and clean out profiles that seem to be redundant. If we have too many redundant profiles, the logon process will be simply to slow for our software. Thank you for your understanding.

If you see the [Edit Profile] link, then a user profile has already been created. You could also check the [View User Profiles] link in case you have forgotten what username you used to create your profile.

Those are the only two required fields for the creation of the profile. In the User Profile text field you may enter any text that tells a bit about your and your collection habits or how everything started. Also all fields at the bottom are optional, you might want to link to your watch collection or favorite watch page or you want to include a picture. Please note that the profile text body can not contain HTML, the HTML will be lost once you save your profile! Enter the text about you and your watches that you want to share with the PWMF community into the User Profile text body:

Step 2: [Edit Profile]

After you received your password (sent out immediately after you clicked Save Profile on the above screen) you will have to return to PMWF and click on [Edit Profile], then you will come to the screen below: Your username John Smith and your email address John@mymail.com will be filled in for you already. Now you could add a NOSPAM tag, e.g. JohnNOSPAM@mymail.com.

In the password section below, you will enter your initial password as received in the mail, e.g. TGIFFJJX. Below you enter your personal new password, e.g. easy4me twice.

Please click on Yes at the Save Password radio button, this way, you will not have to enter the password every time you post on PMWF.

Click Save Profile and now you are ready with a new password easy4me and an email address containing NOSPAM tags JohnNOSPAM@mymail.com.

Congratulations! You have successfully registered and changed your password and email address and are ready to post!

Step 3: [Post New Message]

Now you click on the [Post New Message] link that will appear and you will get this screen: you will notice that the username is already filled in and that the email address now contains the NOSPAM tags and is supplied as a display only field. You are ready to post now!

If you clicked on Yes for Save Password at the time you changed your password, your password will be supplied from your profile. If you do not click Yes, then you would now enter your changed password (case-sensitive, that means the systems differentiates between lower and upper case characters). And if you do not want to re-type your password every time you post, then you could simply click that Yes radio button now. The next time you post, your password will be automatically filled in for you.

Step 4: Login to PMWF

Login via the button (recommended)

If you did not delete the cookies, your personal information is stored in cookies on your computer. You will not need to login and your forum command bar shows the [Post New Message] link. Whenever you see the [Post New Message] link, you are logged in and are free to post.

In case your cookies have been deleted or you are accessing PMWF from another computer, you will need to login again. Simply press the   button and the following Preferences screen will appear . If you prefer, you can use the [Set Preferences] command, it is exactly the same function and will bring you to the same Preferences screen as shown below.

Enter your username exactly, e.g. Reto Castellazzi, then enter your password and press the Update Preferences button. Use Yes for the Save Password option if you want your password to be saved for this session. You will now not have to enter it every time you post.

Note
that you do not need to enter your email address to logon.

Login via the Create Profile link (not recommended)

You could also use the [Create Profile] link to login to PMWF. Whenever you see the [Create Profile] link, you know, that you are either a new unregistered user, or you are not logged on to PMWF.

I always delete my Cookies after every internet session. I do not want to have potentially dangerous code left in my internet cache. Deleting cookies or logging into PMWF from a different computer, e.g. at work or from the internet cafe, will result in an empty screen like below after having clicked [Create Profile]:

All you need to do is to enter your PMWF user name exactly as it is in your profile, e.g John Smith and then click Save Profile. You are done already and logged on! Upon entering your exact username, the PMWF server looked up your profile and you are logged on even you did not supply a password (you will have to enter your password when you make your first post after having re-visited PMWF, please see Step 3 for this).

It is very important to understand, that you have to simply ignore the error message below that will appear after you clicked Save Profile:

Invalid Password!

Either your password was incorrect or no password was entered. Without a proper password, profiles may not be edited. Please use the "Back" button on your browser to return and try again. If you have any questions, please send a note to admin@pmwf.com.

Your browser should automatically
take you back to the message index page

The browser will automatically take you to the PMWF main page and you are logged on! You can see that from the fact, that the [Post New Message] link is visible!

I guess this error message might have been the most confusing obstacle in the registration process or when coming back, because you got an Invalid Password! message as a result from a screen that did not even provide a field to enter the password. The reason this error message pops-up is, that after you entered John Smith, the PMWF server looked up the profile for you but was not able to verify a password since you came to this screen from a different computer or you had deleted the cookies previously.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

5. Edit the profile occasionally to update the information

Click the Edit Profile to update your information. You added watches to the collection, your personal watch site changed the URL etc. Change the information, enter your password into the Password field and click Save Profile

Please note that the User Profile: text body can not contain HTML. Any HTML in that text field will be lost once you save your profile! This is a shortcoming of our WebBBS Software and there is no workaround, sorry. Please enter eventual Links and Images into the provided fields, the very same way you do it when posting.

If you change your email address, then you will have to enter your password 3 times! Into the Password field and twice into the New Password (Enter Twice) field. You do not have to change the password, but in any case, you will have to enter the password 3 times. This is the password verification of the board.

Invalid Password after changing email address?!

If you want to add NOSPAM tags to your email address or changed your email address, then click Edit Profile and enter the password into the Password field and twice into the New Password (Enter Twice) fields. This is the single most frequent error users are encountering. Thank you for remembering this! For all other changes in your PMWF profile, entering the password once into the Password field will do.
PLEASE CLEAR ALL CACHED INTERNET FILES if you get an error Invalid Password after editing your profile and re-logon.

To change the password, simply click Edit Profile, enter the old password and the new password twice. Here is a screen shot of how to do it

6. Change your PMWF Logon Name (aka PMWF Username)

You can not change your logon name by yourself. Please contact one of the PMWF Administrators to change your logon name. Please understand that we cannot change your logon name frequently and that you will have to give us a reason for your logon name change. Thank you for complying.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

7. Forgot your password? - Send us your PMWF Logon Name!

Forgot your password? (You can not logon at all and get an Invalid password message)
Clear your browser's cache first! And then try to logon again, if you still fail....

Send your LOGON NAME* from the registered EMAIL ADDRESS to adminREMOVE@MEpmwf.com
*LOGON NAME: the name you use to logon to PMWF

8. The need to delete temporary internet files

Try this first! - And make it a habit after every internet session!
Worms, Trojan Horses and Viruses are often continuing to slumber in the Temporary Internet files folder! Thus delete those temporary files after each session. Below is the explanation how to do this in Internet Explorer.
You are on Broadband/Cable/ADSL and hopefully behind a personal Firewall?

Try this before sending an email to adminREMOVE@MEpmwf.com
Thank you!

In many cases CLEARING ALL FILES FROM YOUR CACHE (Folder for Temporary Internet Files, Internet Explorer Properties) solves a lot of problems, also the Invalid Password error message. You are sure that you typed the right password and still you get the Invalid Password error - then simply delete all files (red box below) of your internet cache and re-logon! Most importantly, delete the Cookies! Then logon again. Also if you received a new password, CLEAR YOUR CACHE before logging on again!

Internet Explorer, Firefox
Other browsers: check the browser's help file for cache

If this did not help, please see check your Cookie Settings

Firefox

9. Getting an "Invalid Password" Message

Problems editing your PMWF Profile? - Mostly happens after adding NOSPAM tags to the email address!

Invalid Password after changing email address?!

If you want to add NOSPAM tags to your email address or change your email address, then click Edit Profile and enter the password into the Password field and twice into the New Password (Enter Twice) fields, a total of three times! This is the single most frequent error users are encountering. Please see the picture below. Of course you could also enter a new password twice now!
For all other changes in your PMWF profile, entering the password once into the Password field will do.
PLEASE CLEAR ALL CACHED INTERNET FILES if you get an error Invalid Password after editing your profile and re-logon.
