Another historic and contemporary mean of transport: the Sampau, a small diesel driven wooden boat. This boat type is very typical for Macau and Hong Kong.
The Macau Museum of History shows an excellent movie about the history of Macau, showing that some people's entire lives (including weddings and wedding banquets) took place on those boats. For a wedding, those boats were chained together and a virtual island was created.
If you visit Aberdeen on the South Side of Hong Kong Island, make sure you make a harbour tour with one of those boats. It is quite impressive. I remember that our captain managed to get between two big crossing freight vessels and I remember that I tried very hard to to conclude from his facial impression whether he was also scared or not :-) I certainly was!
